Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Matthew Bennett, a 25-year-old mining equipment brokerage representative in Austin. We were able to afford a luxury trip for our 2nd anniversaryWe've been contemplating moving to California in the future, so I planned a trip to Los Angeles to celebrate our two-year wedding anniversary. It was our first luxury trip as a married couple, and we stayed in four-star hotels, rented a luxury car to drive, and enjoyed fine dining at upscale restaurants. Although we're paying significantly more in rent, it's worth every penny for the experiences we've had so far in Austin. Here's what I felt were the five worst things about leaving the San Francisco Bay Area and moving to LA. But I believe, for the most part, San Francisco still has the same caring heart and soul it's had for years.

Sometimes events are simply fantasy themed, without reference to specific books or fantasy worlds. Dreams shattered.”She attributes the growing demand for fantasy events to the commercial success of fantasy romance books, especially among Millennial women. The past year has also seen a spike in the popularity of “romantasy,” or romance fantasy books. “You know, work dredges on for a lot of people,” said Brittany Proctor, a Michigan-based entrepreneur who’s been hosting fantasy balls in the Midwest since 2022. In fact, Proctor is considering scaling back some of her events due to the sheer number of these fantasy balls that have been cropping up in recent years.

889, 891 (1992) (citing State v. Rizzo, 69 N.J. 28, 30 (1975) to disqualify criminal defense counsel). Unlike an actual conflict, the finding of an appearance of impropriety does not automatically demand disqualification. As discussed above, this generally has been found insufficient to outweigh the client's interest in counsel of choice. Blumenfeld v. Borenstein, 247 Ga. 406, 409-10 (1981); Stinson v. State, 210 Ga. The story evokes images of George Floyd begging for his life under the knee of a Minneapolis officer in May 2020. It’s also the first trial under a 5-year-old Washington state law designed to make it easier to prosecute police who wrongfully use deadly force. After what witnesses said appeared to be a brief conversation between Ellis and the officers, Burbank, in the passenger seat, threw open his door, knocking Ellis down. A third officer, Timothy Rankine, arrived after Ellis was already handcuffed, face-down, and knelt on his upper back as Ellis pleaded for breath. Auburn police Officer Jeffrey Nelson was charged in the fatal shooting of Jesse Sarey in 2019 and is still awaiting trial.

A judge in San Francisco on Monday ordered the two factions of Senator Dianne Feinstein’s family fighting over the estate of her late husband, the wealthy financier Richard C. Blum, to try to settle the case through mediation. The order, which both sides agreed to, came as the lawyers in the case appeared in a courtroom for the first time after trading hostile accusations in legal filings over the summer. On one side is Senator Feinstein, who at 90 is in declining health and has faced questions about her ability to carry out the duties of her job, and her daughter, Katherine Feinstein, a former San Francisco judge. On the other side are the three daughters of Mr. Blum from a previous marriage, and his former business partners who are the trustees of his estate. In three separate lawsuits, Senator Feinstein, with her daughter serving as her legal representative, is fighting to sell a multimillion-dollar vacation home in Stinson Beach, north of San Francisco; seeking proceeds from the estate, including from Mr. Blum’s life insurance policy, to pay for her medical expenses; and asking the court to allow her to appoint Katherine Feinstein as a trustee of the estate.

Dianne Feinstein alleges that the trustees for her husband's estate have engaged in "financial elder abuse." Katherine Feinstein, who filed the suit on behalf of her mother, alleges that Feinstein is being cut out of millions. Katherine Feinstein, a former San Francisco judge, filed the suit on behalf of her mother. In a previous suit, Katherine Feinstein alleged that the trust was not moving quickly enough to sell the Stinson Beach house. Katherine Feinstein concedes that the trust has never denied one of Feinstein's requests, but characterizes this claim as "misleading."

The real-estate agents Tracy Tutor and Josh Flagg said now is the time for luxury homebuyers to act. Sellers must price their homes realistically, even if they are worth less than they were last year. Here's their advice for buyers and sellers in the luxury market. The Redfin study backs this up: New listings of luxury homes fell by 6.6% year over year. Price reductions aren't a bad thing in themselves, but Flagg said it's still typically a major turn off for luxury homebuyers — "even if it's a steal."
Police officers involved in the deaths have become an intense focus of investigation, protest, and media coverage. Despite being at the heart of some of the most defining incidents in modern policing, most of the officers involved continue to live their lives under the radar. Insider's review of 72 cops involved in two dozen of the most notorious police killings of the past 30 years shows the many different paths officers have taken. There's no nationwide view into what happens to officers involved in egregious incidents of violence. In rare cases, cops involved in these killings have tried to publicly rehabilitate their image rather than seek out anonymity.

Las Vegas, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Farm equipment took the keynote spotlight at the CES technology trade show in Las Vegas, as "human security for all" became the first theme in its 56-year history. "Technology allows farmers to create more with less," May told an audience of 2,000 at one of the world's largest tech events, organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). The trade group is partnering with the World Academy of Art and Science and the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security to encourage the tech industry to help tackle the world's most pressing problems. The CES sessions are the first phase of the trade group's "rolling thunder" campaign to raise awareness across all sectors of the economy, said Garry Jacobs, executive chairman of the Human Security For All campaign. In a statement to Insider, Southwest said its full-time employee count surpassed prepandemic totals. Ironically, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day were among the most peaceful shifts I had as a Southwest customer-service representative. I've worked nearly 10 holiday seasons at SouthwestI quit several weeks before the start of the 2022 holiday season. The thing people forget is that customer-service employees have families, too. In fact, Southwest reached an industry-first milestone over the summer when our total, active, full-time equivalent Employee count surpassed the number of Southwest Employees from pre-pandemic 2019 totals.

Dru Davis is an executive producer for "Monica," which aired at the 2022 Venice Film Festival. He got his start acting on kids shows and networked with casting directors to change roles. I was born and raised in Santa Monica, and my parents inspired me with their work on the executive and creative sides of Hollywood. From there, I went on to cast talent on shows like "The 100" on The CW, "UnREAL" on Lifetime, and "Altered Carbon" on Netflix. I established myself as a reliable executive producer on multiple projects, including "The Trial of the Chicago 7."
Indiana's Republican-controlled legislature passed the law in May, overriding the veto of the state's Republican governor, Eric Holcomb, who had said it was unnecessary. Proponents of the law say that allowing transgender girls to play on girls' teams is unfair because they have a biological advantage. The mother of a 10-year-old transgender girl attending public school in Indianapolis then sued the school district in Indianapolis federal court, seeking to stop it from enforcing the law against her. The Indianapolis school district itself did not oppose the injunction, but the state of Indiana intervened to defend its law. A group of 19 Republican-led states filed their own brief supporting Indiana in September.
Both have highlighted policies that limit health care access in Georgia, such as its new six-week abortion ban and a decision by Republican Gov. Georgians have witnessed health services dwindle before and during the pandemic, straining the state’s medical system even as regional health care costs rise. Nearly half of Georgia’s 159 counties have no OB-GYN, according to the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce. Some see the shutdowns as exacerbating racial disparities in health care access in Atlanta, where a 2018 Trulia analysis found 25.3 health care providers per 10,000 residents in the city’s majority-white census tracts, compared with 9.8 in majority-Black tracts. “I’m looking at somebody that is going to be for the community,” she says, “that’s going to help us with the health care — bring it closer to us.”
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Amanda Nelson, a 32-year-old influencer in Austin, Texas, about her job. However, there was that part of me that was yearning to travel, and I saw an opportunity to monetize travel-related content. I made a TikTok account and posted my first video in July 2020I was surprised by the lack of Texas travel content when I jumped from Instagram into the world of TikTok. There was a deeper issue there than simply wanting to get paid to travel to a glamorous destination. In August 2022, I made $9,500 on Amazon and nearly $1,000 on Shopify, which made it a $10,500 month.
The launch of Shopify Tax comes as collecting sales tax has grown increasingly complex for Shopify merchants — and for the company's e-commerce rivals, like Amazon. "The world of sales tax has gotten a lot more complicated," Lauren Stinson, a partner and national leader in sales and use tax at Cherry Bekaert, said to Insider. Sales tax rules reveal a key difference between Shopify and AmazonShopify's biggest rival, Amazon, didn't collect sales tax on its third-party marketplace sales for years. But new laws for marketplaces introduced over the last several years have changed Amazon's responsibilities regarding sales tax. Amazon — and other marketplaces like Etsy and Walmart — are now considered "marketplace facilitators," according to Diane Yetter, founder of the Sales Tax Institute and president of Yetter Tax, a sales tax consulting and education business.

I would lose the seniority I'd earned working at the San Antonio call center, but to me, it was the right choice. The thing about Southwest Airline employees, or at least the ones I work with, is their dedication. If you ever fly into the San Antonio International Airport, the employees you interact with have likely been there for years. My go-to suggestion for customers at the San Antonio Airport is to utilize the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. It's only about an hour-and-15-minute drive from the San Antonio Airport.
